Ragwort Pulling Party at Slievenacloy Nature Reserve

Category: Days Out

About the event

The species-rich grassland at Slievenacloy is home to an impressive array of flowering plants in summer, which in turn supports an incredible variety of insects and bird life. This unique site needs to be managed sensitively and one of the best ways of doing this is grazing with livestock.

Ragwort can be toxic to livestock if they eat enough of it, so they avoid it where they can. As a result, a large area can become poorly grazed if the ragwort is allowed to dominate. We pull as much ragwort each year as we can, to protect this precious habitat.

Afterwards, you will be treated to a short guided walk of this nature reserve and its incredible wildlife.
