Maximising UK Adaptation to Climate Change (MACC) Hub

Advancing Transformational Adaptation in the UK

The Climate NI Team at NIEL is delighted to play a core role in the 3-year MACC Hub programme, funded by UKRI and Defra.

The MACC Hub outcomes collectively aim to establish the enabling conditions necessary for transformative adaptation across the UK. This requires embedding vulnerability and justice-oriented approaches across all adaptation efforts, ensuring alignment with policy priorities and equitable outcomes.

The MACC Hub does this by improving coordination between actors and the translation of adaptation knowledge and methodologies through:

  • Effective UK-wide partnerships: The Hub fosters equitable and collaborative partnerships among knowledge holders, researchers, and practitioners across the UK.
  • Pathways to a well-adapted UK: The Hub will develop integrated, place-based visions that contribute to a cohesive and well-adapted UK. These visions will include climate resilient development pathways informed by new knowledge synthesis and best practice.
  • Policy coherence: The Hub will strengthen understanding of the policy landscape, improving policy coherence and establishing mechanisms to provide government departments with actionable advice.
  • A step-change in implementation: The Hub will drive adaptation action by supporting projects ready for implementation and leveraging enhanced data and insights to accelerate progress.
