Northern Ireland LGD Greenhouse Gas statistics, 2005 to 2024

Northern Ireland’s first dedicated Local Government District (LGD) Greenhouse Gas publication has now been published. The new resource provides emissions information for each of Northern Ireland’s 11 council areas and offers a valuable evidence base to support local climate action, planning and decision-making.

DAERA is pleased to highlight a dedicated publication detailing greenhouse gas emissions estimates for the local government districts within NI.  The estimates are sourced from the DESNZ UK local authority and regional greenhouse gas emissions statistics, 2005 to 2024.

The publication provides greenhouse gas emission information for each of Northern Ireland’s 11 council areas in a single, accessible resource. It has been developed to support local climate action, providing a consistent evidence base that can be used by councils, communities, businesses, and other stakeholders to better understand emissions at a local level.   It complements existing greenhouse gas statistics and offers users the opportunity to explore emissions data at Local Government District level through an interactive online resource.

The publication is intended to support local climate planning, inform decision-making and help organisations identify opportunities for emissions reduction and collaboration. Anyone involved in climate action, sustainability planning or community development is encouraged to explore the new resource and consider how it can support their work.
