Dune Action – Day 1 Training Invite

You are invited to take part in Day 1 of Portballintrae’s Dune Action Course, a Beaches & Dunes Climate Adaptation Programme funded by the SSE Airtricity Generation Green Fund.

Dune Action supports 12 coastal communities across the island of Ireland experiencing accelerating dune erosion. The programme is delivered as a two-day training course designed to equip local groups with the knowledge, skills and tools needed to understand, monitor and restore their local dune systems.

This registration is for Day 1 only at Portballintrae Village Hall, with Day 2 scheduled for the latter half of 2026 (date to be confirmed).

 

What to Expect – Day 1 (Delivered by ACT):

A 5-hour indoor session focused on:

  • Understanding dune science through the 3Ss framework — Sand, Species and Space
  • Learning how to assess dune health using the 3S methodology
  • Exploring practical dune protection and restoration approaches
  • Introduction to Nature Based Solutions for coastal resilience

 

What You’ll Gain:

  • Practical tools to assess and monitor your local dunes
  • Knowledge of effective actions to protect and restore dune environments
  • Insight into the role of Nature Based Solutions vs hard engineering

Day 1 – Classroom Training (delivered by ACT)

Day 2 – On-Site Dune Action through Dune Grass Planting (delivered by Clean Coasts)*
